You do not need a sport pilot checkout, just a checkout in the plane. Any instructor can do that but you would prefer someone experienced in Ercoupes. There is probably someone in your area that the group can put you in touch with. If you are on the other hand going to be getting a sport pilot rating then you may be cought in the area of waiting for an instructor in your area to get qualified. The process is occurring but it is ground level right now. Another option might be to have another pilot go get the plane with you to bring it back. Would not be suprised if someone on the group near you might be willing to help on that one. Easiest might be to have another pilot you might know fly you and an ercoupe pilot to the plane and have the ercoupe pilot fly you back.
