I can't even imagine any kind of problem for an American person crossing into Canada with a small aircraft simply because his/her aircraft has small NC..... numbers. Don't all of you folks use small nimbers ? Why would anyone up here even look ,,,, or be concerned,,,,, no big deal really coming up here. I think that American Pilots generally seem much more concerned about Regulatory Detail as do the British. Here in Canada we tend not to get so excited about Government Regulations and perhaps it is because we feel that the government doesn't ever get excited about the needs of us ordinary peasants

Ron,
The problem may not be going to Canada as much as coming back into the US. Back in the '80s I used to fly from Detroit up to Toronto in my 172 that had small registration numbers. At some point I has to put additional numbers on the rear of the plane so customs could easily identify the plane. At one point a friend of mine had to tape his numbers on the plane to meet some customs regulation when flying to the Bahamas. I now live farther from the border and have not flown to Canada for fifteen years or so. I'm not sure what the current regulations are, but I would not be surprised if the problem involved penetration of an Air Defense Zone or something like that. They want the F-16 pilot to be able to get the N number before he fires the rockets.
