Definitely different than my O-200 w/ MS 3-SPA
carb. The carb heat gate control is on the left of the air
box with its own control cable and knob. The mixture is on the rear
of the carb, and the throttle is on the right of the carb. They all work
independently of each other.
I have, on more than one occasion, accidentally pulled the
mixture instead of carb heat while down-wind in the pattern. That of
course got my attention and invoked pilot rule #1: when you change something and
you don't like the results, change it back!
I have yet to experience carb ice (even with lots of
Minnesota flying). I attest it to my instructor reminding me vigorously to
open the carb heat before reaching parallel to the runway threshold on downwind
(even if doing a cruise powered landing) and ALWAYS when below the green
arc.

My throttle is connected to the carb heat
gate. When you pull the throttle out it transfers the air through the carb
heat. I assume that is normal for all Ercoupes? I know that won't help you
when in the air or at say 1500 rpm, but it should make sure you have carb heat
on during landing (at least after you pull to idle). Is my assumption
correct? My instructor taught me to pull carb heat when I was even with the end
of the runway on my downwind leg. I went to 1500 at base and idle during
final.
