Coupers,
I've been talking to several people about the Nuvite finish and their objection is always the time involved to keep the finish looking good AFTER going through the polishing process. They assume it takes huge amounts of regular maintainance to keep the shine. Is this true or would one expect the same time involved as caring for a painted surface?
My wheel covers are bolted on aluminum circles which I've been shining up with off-the-shelf polishes from the hardware store. After experimenting on these, I'm encouraged to try other selected parts with the Nuvite products. It's amazing how reflective aluminum can be!

I think there's a fellow from Nuvite on the email list, Dennis Smith, IIRC.
Always super helpful when it comes to explaining the finishing products. Had
the pleasure of spending a few minutes with him at OSH in '05. If he doesn't
chime in, try to email or call him directly.

The specification, I believe, is 0.060 Lexan.
I got it at Home Deport.

Guys - I managed to crack a corner of the top section of my three part
canopy. This opens up the door for several questions.
1. How do you remove the center section? I believe that I need it to
make a new one.
2. What material should I make the replacement from? This one is
tinted a light green and gives some good shade in the summer.
3. Where can you get the required material?
Any help you can provide will be most welcome
Tandy

The Nuvite guy is Ron Black, [EMAIL PROTECTED] I been using
Nuvite for about 4 years, and love it. I haven't repolished my Ercoupe
since October 2005, but people still look at it and say "Wow!" One
thing to remember, though. If the polished surface gets wet, wipe the
droplets off as soon as you can, or you will get water spots.

I'm not sure that Lexan was ever spec'd, maybe just plain old plexi. On a side
note, realize that Lexan is just about unbreakable which may be good in all
situations except when you need to exit the craft in an emergency. Lexan will
also scratch easier but it certainly easier to get in nice colors.

I 'spec' you're right! I cannot find the reference I thought I had
seen.
In any event, I bought a 4' x 8' sheet of 0.060 Lexan for $48 and Home
Depot cut six side windows out of it at no extra charge.

Subject: [COUPERS-TECH] Windows...
I believe the original windows were made of a material called "Vinylite" There
is one company in the USA which still makes house windows out of this.
060 thou plexi works well and stays flexible down to -20 degrees C.
Use of "Pledge" furniture polish (either lemon or non scented helps to reduce
casual scratching on the windows.
I use a soldering iron (won't crack the plexi) to make the slightly over size holes for the frames to attach to. Currently I use 1100 aluminum rivets in the frames but will be switching them out for flat screw assys when the windows require changing.
Good Luck
