Thanks, Kevin. I have one other potential source other than the long 
lead time part from Univair. Let me know about the availability of 
you guard. I am most worried about the steel reinforcement plates at 
the moment. I will have to scrub this part of the project if I can't 
get them or fabricate them by Wednesday. They want my Ercoupe out of 
the hangar (and so do I).

I was wondering if you had concerns about having the rudder control 
cables open in the cockpit. It probably is a silly question, since 
the rudders aren't very effective in the first place. My A&P/IA 
suggested it wasn't necessary from an airworthiness perspective.
