Hello Thurman and welcome to the tribe! First, congrats on your acquisition, you're really gonna have some fun now.
As far as oil, look at the logs and see what's been used if the plane is from your area. Usually an owner will like one brand from another for various reason, such as usage, ability to stay clean, filter or no, analysis or no, climate and the like. Straight and multi weights all have their purpose and most aviation oils are good. Aeroshell, Phillips, ExxonElite, etc. Always use aviation oil for your airplane. A good source of info would be; http://www.shell.com/home/content/aviation-en/aeroshell_site/technical_articles/techarthome_31071220.html?LN=/generalaviation Hope it cones through in one piece, I don't know how to use the tunyurl thing. You may have to manually enter it into your browser. Now when it comes to buying, if there's an oil distributor close by they will usually sell it by the case but if going that route it may be best to gather up the guys, see who needs what, call for a price, collect the money first (definitely) and go pick it up. I've bought AvOil at Sam's Club and had sighting reports from Costco but you need to be there when they have it stocked. Finally there's the local pilot shop or aircraft parts joint. If you've never done it, get someone to watch and advise, it's a different process than changing oil in your '65 Beetle. Ditto if you have a filter, learn the proper way of changing that too! Good luck and hope we see you with some reports of new ownership.
