I went flying a couple of days ago in my Grumman Tiger. My friend and I flew
to a nearby airport for hash and eggs, then on to another airport where I did
some instrument approaches for practice. Total flight time was two hours and
we used 20 gallon...$100.00 worth. Afterward, I said to my friend if we flew
the Ercoupe, while we would not have done the instrument practice, we would
have had just as much fun just flying low and slow at economy cruise and we
would have used 7 gallons...$35.00. Bottom line is there are airplanes that
are great for the mission of getting from point A to point B quickly and there
are planes that are simply fun to fly low and slow with no where to go. For my
wallet, low and slow is great!

Subject: [ercoupe-tech] LSA dilemma for owners

The recent Threads on the scrap Ebay plane illustrates
  a new problem.

Those of us with the C or CD have seen the value of
the Aircraft rise. But it is only a "real" value if
you plan on selling it. Otherwise, the impact is that
the costs of parts and maintenance rise.

The Ebay plane might have been a good buy at
$1500-2000 for spare prop, gas tanks, center section,
etc. It does not look like a good rebuild project in
  an economic sense.

Personally, I like the quiet satisfaction that I can
afford to go out flying when the 15 gph plane owners
are sitting around the coffee table grumbling about
  fuel.

I hope we don't outprice ourselves!
