Bart,
what makes you think that "we are all supposed to have a turn and bank
indicator
installed in the Ercoupe" ?

I don't recall the T&B required for VFR flight, nor being original equipment in
factory Ercoupes.

As long as we are all supposed to have a turn and bank indicator
installed in the Ercoupe, I would recommend that everyone get a CFI to
ride along and teach them to fly needle ball and airspeed. It is
actually easier to do than you think. For an emergencey "going IFR" or
more correctly "going IMC" situation, a 180 degree turn can be executed
very nicely on the turn and bank indicator. In fact, some of the
finest instrument approaches I have ever seen to very low minimums
(100' and 1/2m) were done using only needle ball and airspeed. But,
the guy was trained to do it.
Further, straight and level on the turn and bank is a piece of cake, if
you practice say, once a month.
