I struggled for the longest time with a low engine output problem, which was
real and traced to a broken cam follower, which caused incomplete opening of an
intake valve. I ALSO found that my tach was inaccurate, which made
troubleshooting more difficult. As result I bought two optical tachometers, a
portable one kept in my bag and a Proptach that's velcroed to the top of my
dash. IMHO Knowing the exact RPMs is critical, when chasing an engine output
problem.

I didn't mean to imply that the tach was the problem, but It helps to know
where we stand. Static RPM is meaningless unless we know the accuracy of the
tach.
