CAD drawings may be posted to the ERPS list. If they are over 40k,
they will bounce, so posting a URL is probably more convenient (for
everyone except me).
ERPS is a diverse organization with diverse opinions, so it took us a
couple days to figure out exactly what we as an organization wanted to
do about John's generous offer. John, I apologize for not getting
back to you sooner; we must have had an "I thought *you* were going to
write to him" glitch, and then we got sucked into WorldCon (which was
great great great - separate report). We accept, and we thank you.
A couple related issues had to be decided before we could accept.
ERPS policy WRT to ERPS CAD drawings is that by default, they are
public and may be posted to the mailing list and to the web site.
Other subscribers to the ERPS mailing list may also post CAD drawings.
Not all CAD drawings used by ERPS will belong to ERPS. The author
will retain copyright unless he/she specifically assigns it to ERPS,
and ERPS will respect the copyright and the author's wishes, which
will in at least one case prohibit ERPS from publishing the drawing.
This was a compromise with an ERPS member who dislikes the idea of
ERPS posting any drawings at all. There are risks in publishing
detailed drawings, which we have discussed here previously. (BTW, if
any ERPS member were to violate copyright and post a prohibited
drawing, he would get a visit from his friendly neighborhood
Regulatory Affairs Officer, who would be in his neighborhood but would
not be friendly. Think rusty hacksaw blade...)
Each ERPS drawing will also have a prominent disclaimer absolving ERPS
of any consequence of any action that occurred subsequent to the Big
Bang, or may occur in the future, yada yada yada. We're asking other
drawings authors to also put in such language specifically absolving
ERPS of any responsibility etc. It's a pain, but I really don't want
to get sued.
OK, bad/formal stuff out of the way, go have fun, thanks John!
