It seems that you could have a tape from a rig that was set up in the
bathroom of the club that might sound like crap but still pass the
"dankseed certification process." I don't mean this as too much of a
jab at the dankseed folks (I am 100% confident that they are trying to
let people know that a "dankseed" can safely be downloaded as a good
source), but I'd like to hear what they have to say about this.

By virtue of the fact that it requires 5 reviewers to certify a transferred
recording "dank," and given the time that it takes to perform this,
typically reviewers will only want to spend the time on the better quality
recordings in circulation. Therefore, I'd say that since 5 people are
generally not going to want to take the time to review shitty sounding
shows that sound like they were recorded in the bathroom, when you see a
dankseed, you can at least know that 5 people were interested enough in the
version to spend the time to review the recording. Since most dankseed
reviewers are quality mongers to begin with (myself included), and there is
quite a large list of shows submitted for certification at any given point
in time, I don't think lousy sounding shows end up being top priority for
any reviewer, unless recordings of a particular show are very rare and/or
in high demand. As a [fortunate or unfortunate] casualty of the process,
it is not unusual for some shows submitted for certification to go without
completing the process for quire a long time.

It should be noted that there is nothing in the way of dankseeds that
precludes different versions of the same show from being dankseeded, and
quite often seeds do get upgraded when better sounding, flawless recordings
pass the certification.

In other words, even though the goal of dankseeds is purely based on
ensuring cleaner transfers and better CD tracking, without regard to
quality of the actual recording (your concern), the ultimate side effect of
the process is, the better quality recordings of a particular show are what
end up most often getting certified anyway. But the only claim made by
dankseeds is that it is a recording that has been verified "flawless" by 5
reviewers.

Besides, the quality of a recording outside of potential glitches and poor
tracking is most often too subjective and purely a matter of taste.
