PJP deftly scripted: > It seems that you could have a tape from a rig that was set up in the > bathroom of the club that might sound like crap but still pass the > "dankseed certification process."
To which I reply: I have no idea of the publicly stated reasons that the dankseeders don't announce their opinions on the sound of the tape beyond those empirical standards, but I like to think it's because the "feel" or "timbre" of the tape, if you will, IS a purely personal optinion, and it's not for one or another to tell you whether it is better than another's or not. Mo Tucker, drummer for the Velvet Underground, used to bang on stolen upturned trashcans on stage in order to be able to make the gig after her traps were ripped off. If the dankseed included such criteria as "great sounding drums" then that show would never be certified - but still one of the most desirable shows to have on my shelf. Beyond one's opinion, only the empirical data on the show can be truly rated. I have shows I love, my housemate hates, and vice versa. no one can ever agree all the time on the "best" seed, so why make it an inclusion in the certification? I myself like to get one or two different seeds of a show when i can, and use the one I like the most for my audio version. Peace, love, respect, for everybody 8-Damien _______________________________________________ etree mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://mail.etree.org/mailman/listinfo/etree
