Maybe my Unix expertise biases me, but hacking Windows software seems
significantly harder than hacking in an open source code base.  Having
to disassemble everything you want to understand definitely slows you
down.

The Fraunhofer gettimeofday hack I mentioned, for instance, took me
less than an hour.
