At MIT "hacker" is a value-neutral term, and a "hack" is a prank.
Putting a VW beetle on the MIT dome is a "hack", a good hack if nobody
gets caught, better if the question "How did they do that?" isn't answered
unless one of the hackers tells, and best when MIT's administration cannot
undo the hack without elaborate equipment.
And yes, to the administration, hacker has always been a
perjoritive. Admins, like all suits, cannot afford a sense of humor.
