Ben and Dexter, here were the specs:

It works well.

hp jet direct

No, I have Zebra label printers attached to an hp jet direct. One could
also install a non-hp jet direct type of device to an HP printer.

The device will have at least two connections: a printer cable (IEEE 1284,
ben) and a cat 5 cable. The print server sits on your network and does
not require any computer to serve it, or even be on. All machines on your
home network are configured to print directly to it (ie 10.0.0.45 on port
lp).

An alternative is to have a computer print server where all of the clients
spool to the computer print server, which then spools to the jet direct.
This is what I have and is ideal for a network of more than a few clients.

A printer like an HP LJ 4050N has a built in hp jet direct. The ones I'm
talking about are external and work on any printer with a parallel port.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Cory
