In many cases, access to the building's power panel is closer to parking
that is around the side or in the back. Too many times, non-plugin
driving people are making the stupid decision to make EV parking
'showcase' (up front). That make make for good PR for them, but horrible
non-access for the plugin drivers, and forever leaves a bad taste in
non-plugin driver's minds (?why do they get special treatment? - who
cares/I will teach them!, I will just park there!).

...

-There was a follow up post I had made (perhaps not on this thread)
where I mentioned that I had researched and found that in most cases you
do not need their EVSE card ahead of time, but that as long as you have
access to a phone, you can call to use your credit card to pay for the
charge (example when having to use a wired phone that is away from the
EVSE: Park and plugin, note the EVSE location, serial number, and the
toll free EVSE telephone number on the EVSE, then lock and leave the
plugin to make the call. I would bring with you a list of all EVSE
contact numbers encase the EVSE had theirs rubbed off - I had listed
those numbers in the post).

There is a newswire post 'EV parking wars' I will be making soon, that
shows giving ice drivers any opportunity to be disobedient will result
in blocked (ice'd) EV spots.

Since the 1990's when I began my EV experience, taking the brunt of
abusive ice drivers has shown me that strong EV spot signage is required
at each and every space, mounted at windshield height (so many idiot
EVSE installers mount EV parking signage at too high a height which only
good for semi-trucks, thus making them useless).

There is existing CA state law, and the recent plugin laws (that GM had
lawmakers stop what they were doing and create) to allow non-plugins in
EV spots be tow-away. But neither the police nor parking control
officers know about them, and even after they do, neither want to
enforce them as they aren't part of their SOP (standard operating
procedures - they do not get measured/paid enforcing EV parking laws).

So, until cities get serious about enforcing existing EV laws by
communicating to their local police and parking enforcement officers
that the city expects vehicles in EV spots that are not plugged in
should be ticketed and towed away, it is up to hosts to put strong
tow-away signage. EVSE sales teams sell a package-deal that usually has
wimpy signage that keeps the purchase price low, and their company
profits high (= their wimpy signage is useless)

The public EVSE sites I went to that had 'EV parking only" (like above)
were usually ice'd. I never saw ice'd parking spots in the Palo Alto, CA
EV spots. That is because the plugin community had an EV driver on the
Palo Alto city council: their parking garage EV spots had in red
lettering "tow-away" signage (anything that isn't red lettered is
ignored/considered not-serious)

That all sounds rather EV militant, but it has to be done. It might even
take a local EAA Chapter or EV group to fund strong EV signage for it to
happen.
