Hello Steve, There is a very simple cheap way to do this operation. Use a count down timer. I use a Minute Minder timer that I got at Wal Mart. I have log every charger cycle since 1976 recording the:
Date - Distance Travel - Ampere Hour Used - SOC % - Charger Ampere - Charger Time - Battery Temperature - Ambient Temperature - Road Conditions. >From this Data, I made another chart on how long it takes to charge the >battery pack at a set ampere that it takes to replace the Ampere Hour removed >until the Emeter reads 00.0 AH. After knowing how long it takes to charge the battery pack which uses a set amount of ampere hour, I set the timer in the count down mode. Many times when the timer goes off, The Emeter has read 00.0 and other times it may read -00.0 to 00.1 to 00.9 which is not critical for my type of batteries. I have program the Emeter to count how much AH is used instead of counting down from 100% AH. Another way to do this operation if you have a Emeter that has a output control circuit. You can have this Emeter circuit control a contactor to shut down the charger on the AC side. Do not turn off the DC side of the contractor, because this could cause damage to the charger if the charger ampere is high. I thought it was the same as the one I previously had, but this one has no shutoff. Since everyone on occasion has a tendency to forget to unplug their car, I think the shutoff is necessary. Is there a simple cheap solution to this? I am looking for something that will essentially "unplug" the charger when the voltage (within some tolerance) hasn't changed after a 2 hour period.
