Agreed. I think we're seeing the morphing of conversions from "the car I
had to build because I couldn't buy one" into the next generation of hot
rod or classic restored car. People will be doing conversions because
they really enjoy it and want to make something different. We are
already at the point where an OEM EV is much more affordable than a
conversion. Not in total cost, of course, but in the currency most
people are concerned with: how much out of pocket each month. It's hard
to come up with $15,000 in cash to convert a car, easier to part with
$500/month and get a car with better range, better creature comforts and
a warranty.

Along the hot-rod lines, I've noticed a marked improvement in
workmanship in the new conversions I've seen over the past couple years.
And I think that's because people are building them as show pieces
rather than just slapping parts in to get a running vehicle.
