I totally agree with you, David. My point is simply that I predict a
revival of conversions when the price of components comes down enough.
There are several qualifcations:

1. The final price of a conversion must be substantially cheaper than buying
a new EV.

2. You must have an old car (i.e. glider) that you really want to keep.

3. You must enjoy or at least have the willingness to do the conversion.

This is pretty much the same qualifications as for today. However, today
you won't be able to meet #1 and result in something with equivalent
performance and range as, say, the Leaf. So, that's why I'm focusing on the
component cost as the driving factor.

That's long been a wish of many folks on this list, and has been discussed
before. Part of the problem is that such a kit almost has to be generic, so

it comes with technical challenges that limit its audience.

Designing a bolt-in EVl kit is not trivial. Just ask Mike Brown or Randy
Holmquist. By the time you can design and proof it, the vehicle you
designed it for is old and usually out of production, or so altered by
redesign that the kit doesn't work any more. This limits the useful sales
lifetime of the kit and often makes it economically infeasible.
