So, how does your system work ? I'm not following.
Is this correct: you have a solar panel system which first powers your
home, through a grid tie inverter. If there is excess power from the
panels, that charges your cars. If there is insufficient power from the
panels, the cars power your home ?
Much was left to the imagination. :-)
MY impression is that he is charging cars and feeding the inverter
directly from the PV. The array of 120vac outlets I believe he said are
used for DC. All three wires on the plugs/outlets to one side of DC.
Presumably, other outlets for the other side of DC. That may not be as
dangerous as it first appears. An AC appliance inadvertently plugged in
would not likely produce smoke and arcs.
The grid tie inverter seems to be 120vac which means to me that he
supplements only about half of the house demand sources.
I can suggest grid tie PV micro inverters as a way to supplement house
demand on both split phase legs from 36v batteries.
Incidentally, Steve installed my (and his) very first four grid tie PV
panels about 2011. They are still producing today. I haven't been
monitoring so I don't know about decline.
