They replaced our old mechanical meter with an electronic one about 15
years ago. I had a separate mechanical meter in the garage to monitor my
EV charging and PV generation. After about 6 years, I noticed that the
two did not agree! Their meter was reading about 10% high.
I called to complain. They blew me off for months. Eventually, they sent
someone out. It turned out that the "smart" meter had a lithium battery
that had died. Without it, the meter wasn't sending real data; so they
"guessed"!
They replaced the meter, but wouldn't give me any credit for the many
months since I reported the discrepancy.
