The GOM guestimates range based on a number of factors including: exterior 
temperature, climate control settings, and recent driving experience ( whs per 
mile)

Cold weather with the heat on can reduce your guestimated range by 20% or more. 
 Short trips, especially if they leave the car "on" while checking the mail 
means more whs per mile driven, again reducing your guestimated range.
