Hi all,

Thanks for the responses. The direction to the ET list has been informative. I
have some experience (but no formal education) with EVs having converted an S10
(120v), a couple of Allis Chalmers G tractors (48v) and a Ford 9N (120v), not
to mention maintained electric golf carts and the like.

The ET tractor was very rough when I pulled it out of the pucker brush. I had
no interest in restoring the original controls so set about preparing to use a
cheap knockoff of a "modern" Curtis 1204 controller with Li battery. After
reading thru the ET list, I've decided to keep the F/R solenoids on the
armature and use the field windings speed control. (Some golf carts were set up
differently) That is, unless someone has a good argument to the contrary. I'm
not an EE so if someone has words of wisdom regarding this, I'm all ears. I did
put new bearings and brushes in the traction motor and all 3 mower deck motors
and freed up the brake!
I also come up with an obvious answer to the issue of providing 18v to the
front implement motor.......use one of the several Makita 18v batteries I have
around the shop. Much simpler than trying to tap the Li battery and unbalance
the cells.

Thanks for your help and inspiration over the years. Once the ET is on the
grass, I can go back to getting the Solectria Force and the Solectria E10 on
the road.

cheers,
John M
