Even if that "whatever" turns out to have zero intelligence and has nothing to do with morality and has no more consciousness than a sack full of doorknobs? If so then maybe Leon Lederman's joke will turn out to be true after all and the Higgs particle, or something very much like it, really is God. Is anybody around here prepared to pray to the Higgs particle? PS: Lederman couldn't think of a good title for his book so he just typed "The God Particle" on the manuscript as a joke assuming his publisher would change it, but to his surprise they never did.
