Just by historical experience it is better do die on your feet, merely, because, it seems to afford a greater chance at survival. This reminds me of the novel Catch-22, by Joseph Heller, where Yossarian's friend has a dialogue with the Spirit of Ancient Rome, where he states, "It is better to die of your feet then live on your knees, to which the ancient spirit says, No! no! it is better to live on your knees then die on your feet." People like Chris try to sell the idea that fear is only paranoia. I don't think it is in the case of the Jihad, which rewards dying in battle along with killing in battle, with endless women, and food. If one believes in this path to Jannah, paradies, what then is the disincentive?
