and the Turing Test works.
It gives some idea. But all consciousness state can be fake for some
finite times, and conversely, failing the test does not make you
necessarily not conscious (cf the comatose guy).

Should have said "Consciousness is related to an unconscious act of
faith". I was alluding to Helmhotz theory of perception, as
unconscious inductive inference. many experiences illustrates it: we
extrapolate and build "reality" every second, most of the time
containing feature not seen, but taken from memory.
When you wake up, you don't decide consciously to bet that there is a
reality, with hopefully some coffee, etc. The brain does it
automatically, that is unconsciously. Things get different when you
don't find that damn coffee. You might need to revise the theory, to
change the conception of reality "No more coffee". Consciousness
accelerates all the anticipation of that kind. "Is it worth to go in
the cold rain to get coffee?", ...
