So one universe becomes 3, the field decays in one universe but not in the other 2, then both of those two universes splits in 3 again and the inflation f ield decays away in two of them but doesn't decay in the other 4. And it goes on like this forever. Even if inflation turns out to be wrong virtually all astronomers think there must be other worlds we can never see (although not necessarily other worlds in the Everett sense). We can't see anything further away than 13.8 billion light years in any direction because there just hasn't been enough time for light further away than that to reach us; but nobody thinks 13.8 billion light years marks the limits of creation and we just happen to be living at the center of the universe, there must be lots of things beyond 13.8 billion light years that we have never seen and will never see, perhaps a infinite (and not just astronomical) number of things.
