Also, when I used the word "soul", I was not doing so in the religious sense of some immortal, created essence, but referring more to something like the "anima mundi", the notion of a kind of spirit in everything. Like I say, a computational panpsychism is not quite that, but nor is it such a massive leap perhaps. Incidentally though, as Bruno has pointed out, if you accept the UDA, then it does imply a kind of immortality, because there is ultimately only the one mind, the Universal Person. However it's not immortality as "you", so that might not be so comforting for some. I tend to find it terrifying, because it means enduring everything. Also enjoying everything of course, but the world's sufferings seem so much more diverse and intense than its pleasures.
