That is not an unreasonable assumption, but responding to stimuli is
behavior. So being a practical man I'll bet you wouldn't still think
they're conscious when their eyes are open but their heart hasn't had a
beat in several hours nor have they taken a breath during that time and
rigor mortis has set in and they've started to smell bad.
