The physical appearances need consciousness, as they comes from the consciousness differentiation on the many computations in arithmetic. It is “matter” which is more like an epiphenomenon, but “epi” adds nothing. It is just that matter is a phenomenon, not a noumenon, or something ontologically real. Without consciousness you get only p, []p, and []p & <>t, and no subject to appreciate the spectacle.
