The least painful method imo is to add the mailbox as an additional mailbox.

So logged on as the new manager open Outlook and go to File - Account settings, 
select the new managers name and click on Change -> More Settings -> Advanced 
-> Add.  Add the mailbox of the old manager.

This requires the new manager to have full access of the old managers mailbox 
(which you state you have already done).

Guys I am picking this thread back up, because we had another situation where 
we wanted the new manager to see emails of the old manager.

This time I did it differently... I chose to simply add an additional account 
to the profile.

It found the account and loaded up and I thought all was going to be good, but 
this time I keep getting prompted for security.  It's like it is trying to use 
one security to access both mailboxes.  Of course I can key in the user and 
password (which I already did when setting up the additional account in 
outlook), but it doesn't seem to remember respective user / pass for each 
account.

So once again what seems like should be intuitive is a pain in the rear again.  
Such simple things seem allusive.

Any feedback on this?

If you see me previous original post you know the other way of doing this had 
its own set of bugs, but looks like this way also has its own set of bugs as 
well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok... every time I go to do something with Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 when 
it comes to sharing or delegating it seems nothing ever works as one would 
think or at least not intuitively.
In this case I have a manager that has been replaced with a new manager.

We simply wanted the new manager to be able to open the old managers email 
account for historical purposes.
I went in and gave the new manager full access to the account.
I then went into the new manager's outlook and did a file / open / other user's 
and opened up her mailbox.
Awesome... it worked.
Now we want to simply close it in outlook so you right-click on the mailbox and 
choose close and get the following error:

"This group of folders is associated with an e-mail account."
Now you would think it would just close... heck no... you get an error that 
doesn't really lead you to what to do.  I have done some searching and it looks 
like I would have to do some registry changes to close it.

It is so irritating to do what you think would be simple things only to keep 
hitting these little roadblocks.
Obviously I am not an Exchange / Outlook Expert or I would have probably known 
this was going to happen and how to properly set this up or prevent it, but it 
should not be difficult.  Heck... open another user's mailbox... then close the 
dang thing.
