Your mistake is assuming that you need a "similar" box to your Exchange boxen. Any old workstation with enough disk space will do. Simply install Exchange on it with the exact Org and Site name, and same SP levels (it can be on your existing network), restore the Information Store to that machine, run DS/IS consistency , assign an NT account to the mailbox you want to recover, open that mailbox with Outlook, export to a pst and you are done.

The problem: The backup of the Exchange Mailboxes lasts 12 hours, the whole filesystem (27 GB) is being taped in half an hour. Why does take so long to read out the mailboxes of the information store? Anybody seen this or any idea?
