Tim,
I had this same problem a few weeks ago when I was trying to install Linux.
The LI is NOT LILO being cut off in the middle. It is the BIOS giving some
cryptic error code. It stands for Logical something-or-other. What it's really
saying is that you're telling it to boot from the CD-ROM, but the motherboard
isn't capable of it. Then it is trying to boot from the hard drive, but is
either not finding one or not finding anything intelligible on it. That's the
1's and 0's part.
So, to fix:
1) take out your CD-ROM from the drive, or set your BIOS to not try to boot from
CD-ROM and
use a Linux boot disk instead
2) check all your drive cables, they may very well be loose
Hope that helps. It did in my case.
