well surely its the horse for the course Mike. In a secure
network with a need for telnet access to a host by PCs
there is an argument for telnet. Of course ssh or openssh
are the only viable options for sessions over the net.

However within a domestic network, having regard to
the currency of password trading among (I could say)
all users at all sites - i.e. its a fact of life -
clear text isn't really an issue

Its a bit like owing a 4wd or a firearm; it depends upon
        how its used

I don't think there is any virtue in "banning" a useful
service - acknowledging that others are better in
        differing environments

cheers,

Kyle Hargraves
