Thanks for the response.

I (think I) learned something else -- when I went looking for .pwl files
I found only two, one was <first name>.pwl.  (I have no idea who or what
the other was for.)  Anyway, then I tried using:

smbclient -L <windows host name> -U <first name>

and it worked!

That gives me an alternative to changing the Windows user names.
