Wouldn't a script that stripped out all the closing format strings dork it up 
so it could be used for illustrative purposes (replying to html-using 
emailers)?  By this I mean remove all the </some-heading-identifier> 
components from the message.  Perhaps it would be better to strip out the 
initiating headers and leave the closing headers in place.  Something to 
prevent their client from rendering valid html and instead produce the near 
gibberish text that most of us see with this html stuff.
