As John said, plently of autocrossers DO want shocks. Maybe not all. And probably no single one of us can speak for all.
I have run all over the country and get to enjoy frost-heave free pavement out here in the SW. However, even our best pavements out here still have bumps and perhaps 75% of the time, the courses aren't laid out to avoid the bumps. Some of the less desireable pavement here has sinkholes like FIR's skidpad 4 and at least one Honda has broken a strut shaft there.
When I see a Subaru STX or Mitsu EVO or MR getting disturbed violently by a bumpy section, I know I am in for big time bashing around with my F500.
As the speed increases over it, the disturbing force of the same bump increases. Faster solo speeds these days has led to more breakage and more out of control situations.
If someone firmly believes shocks are waste of time and money on their car, they should certainly be free to keep their pucks while others can change.

The rules should allow both methods but let's not get bogged down in another year's putzing around waiting for shocks.
