I expect the metallic beating you are seeing was the thrust washer as it disintegrated. Kawasaki's would occasionally eat the thrust washer.

There was a bit of crap in the bottom of each cylinder that surely needed cleaning out. It looks as though the crankcase itself has been beaten by metallic objects but not too badly. Near as I can tell with my uneducated eye, the only problem is one of the con rods has a thrust washer missing completely. I imagine that did not get put on with the re-build. Have you got a spare one of those, the skinny one?
