Not my most shiny, happy week of racing ever. Had a good time though. I am getting tired of seeing the backside of Golay, though...
Actually, if you watch carefully, you can sort of watch my car die. It was having problems the last day (only good day) of qualifying with severe bogging. Went though (almost) everything and after asking everyone with a racing brain larger than mine, the consensus was "lean it out". Well, big brains only work when they get all of the information. If you watch coming out of the slow corners when I get off of the gas (engine in vacuum) it is terribly slow getting back up to power. This was caused by a crack in the fuel pump diaphragm. The engine was not getting enough fuel and eventually got very hot and made a new set of ash trays out of the pistons on the seventh lap. It actually was sucking fuel out of the pump though the crack off throttle and not getting enough on power. There was A LOT of fuel in the bottom of the engine and lines when it was disassembled. That is when the light bulbs started to flicker. I can say that freshly Quadrini-rebuilt motor and Sonny-tuned chassis was way faster than the position would have seemed with my driving and qualifying. We thought the pump was fine when we checked it. The lines had plenty of flow when idling and revving in the paddock...From now on I am just changing everything even if it seems okay! Lots of good racing out there. Lots of learning to do yet. That was a good lesson in a short time. Sort of like getting my sixth through tenth national events all at the same time! jim ----- Original Message ---- From: Jan Schmidt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2006 3:24:19 PM Subject: [F500] F500 coverage Just got finished watching the race! Awesome! However Chapparal, Kawasaki and AMW were slighted when they were talking about the engines. They said someing about "Mandatory Rotax snowmobile engines." Maybe we can write the script for them next year? On a different subject, what happened to Jim Libecco in the race? I didnt see or hear of any incidents on the TV coverage, involving him. Jimbo, you out there?
