I would estimate at least $ 1,200 per race to be competitive on a national level. Eight races, one engine rebuild on ave. for me per season. More if you add a trip to the Runoffs. Renting a top finishing car makes sense to some. Oh, and Mark, It's "Beer, then Food and Lodging". I'm sure that was a Typo. Eric Hellerstedt Atl Region

You have to amortize it all over a period of time. If you simply drive the car on the trailer after the race and then take it to the next race with no maintenance and only do a couple of races a year, then you could possibly do it for that. Here are a list of things that will always require money to be spent at some point. * Fluids, cleaners, tools * Brakes, fluid and cleaner * Oil * Plugs * Tire wear/replacement * Bearing wear * Body and paint wear * Clutch rebuilds and wear * Belt replacements and wear * Belts every 2 years * Safety gear wear * Helmet replacement to latest SA date * Food/beer/lodging * Chassis repairs, tie rod ends * Radio repairs, batteries, scanners * Crash and material failure repairs * Trailer repairs, tires, inspections, insurance * Entry and practice fees. $1,000/weekend over the long haul is a reasonable estimate. He mentioned several costs - tires, entry fees, then estimated "$2k per race". Ain't it more like $1k per weekend? . . . and even less. I'm often way under that for two races at a DN weekend. But then again, I'm cheap. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kenneth Kirkland" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 30, 2006 4:03 PM Subject: Re: [F500] F500 coverage > Jan, > > Yeah, I caught that "Rotax only" implication, too.
