Eric,
That is the difference from Solo V and F440/F500. About the only thing we
are allowed, at least in New England, is the muffler issue. NER has waived
it because if not we will loose are two sites. The tires we used are the
shorties and are legal for road racing. The 7in and 7 1/2 in wheels we use
are still under the limits. At first we had to use 36mm carbs on the Rotax,
but now can use the 38mm! Ok we don't use the 50 extra pound rule for the
493. If I were to put my fire bottle back in the car and some body work
back on it will pass tech at a road race. My 89 Zink22 has the uprated roll
hoops, etc.

Lee,
I don't think Steve deserves your call as "holier than thou" and I think
you
missed the point. That is, road racers live by the GCR and solo racers
live
by the Solo Rule book. The rules are different and the objectives are
different. I doubt if the solo racers would want road racers making their
rules and visa versa. It's just a matter of self interest and controlling
ones own destiny without the influence of those who don't have a vested
interest. Sure we use the same car but under a different set of rules and
I
would bet that being in a solo modified class allows a lot more
versatility
than the road racing GCR does.
So remember we share the same basic cars, but live by different rules
coming
out of the same sanctioning body.

Bob, thanks for stating what I feel as well but couldn't articulate due
to the red mist after reading Mr. Dodd's post.
As I stated over on the forum, although I am a "lowly F5 solo driver" I
am the first one to extoll the virtues of taking a F5 car on the track.
As you said Bob, some of us have to live with solo. Would I like to road
race? Sure, but now I am having fun learning what I have until I can
make that leap to a high end F5 car. In that light, I have a very vested
interest in where this sport goes.
Mr. Dodd's "holier that thou" attitude is what is wrong with formula car
racing as a whole.
Lee
Steven, many of us who just Solo 2 are cars have just as much right to
speak
up. Many of us have as much or more invested than some of the average
people just Road Race. Also many of us are Regional and National Solo 2
drivers. It cost us just as much to tow to Kansas and other places to run
in the National Tour events. When we have a problem with our cars at an
event we do not have much time to fix it before we need to run again.
Many of us have reasons why we do not road race, not that we don't want
to,
but like myself cannot afford the extra cost. Plus some of us have health
issues that could prevent us from getting a license.
So what happens to this class has an effect on all of us who compete in
F440/F500 cars.

/ Chris and many others,
/>/ To Quote John Ulrich "Racers Race".... Mind you, you sir don't
currently
/>/ race in F5. Many of you are not currently entitled to voicing any
/>/ opinion on how to grow a field until you "field" a car of your own.
Stop
/>/ with the M/C pwr and shocks until you actually compete with that thing
on
/>/ the track sir. -Yet to occur, per all your peers. How many of the F5
/>/ dissenters have a current SCCA licencse?
/>/ If Q leaves it's huge! Art races right? ART therefore gets a Major
/>/ opinion.
/>/ You're developing for Q? Have a BA & P.E. to go with that F5
National
/>/ Racing license?-Didn't think so. Both would be a good idea before you
/>/ voice an opinion to be taken seriously.
/>/ Yes I know both you & Novak offer to design probono for others, but I
/>/ don't think Hanley, Q and others would be any more interested than
Panoz
/>/ would be in Chevy designing LMP suspensions for them. Nothing's for
free.
/>/ And I bet they would get exactly what they paid for.
/>/ How 'bout we limit opinions to those who actually race cars somewhere
/>/ other than on the bench.
/>/ And wasn't Jay leaving to design DSR-See SR board on EZboards...He
only
/>/ was waiting to sell his last two F5s..........
/>/ Just a thought from someone who sunk 25k over the past 18 months into
/>/ racing F5s. --And who considers it money well spent.
/>/ Put your money and car on the track and others will take your
seriously.
/>/ Come race with us!!!!
