Hey Chuck, do not have a hard time with the engine price on the GSXR 600. It is real & on the way to my door now. Want one? Just give me a call.
Rotax engine costs to build a complete Nationally competitive 494 engine. Remember I have no spare parts & need everything. bare used 494 engine $600 to $1000 say $750. rebuild engine complete, with new cylinder liners, pistons, rings & crankshaft. $1200 2 new carbs with proper jetting setup $300 new Polaris primary $250 new Arctic roller secondary $150 helix $70 secondary spring $25 hard helix rollers $45 primary spring $20 primary weights $300 machine primary $35 ignition module $150 coil $75 fuel pump $40 starter kit $300 exhaust pipe with manifold $700 This adds up to $4410, & I am sure there are things I have missed. Now this is no BS, this is what it takes to win & be totally reliable. Yes, you can do it for less but it will be a very used engine with pistons & rings that you do yourself & no new crank. The cranks have an approximate life of 40 to 50 hours & with a used engine who knows how much time is on it? I know about crank failures, just buy another engine & start over. I can get race headers & exhhaust pipe for $500 for the GSXR 600 from several places. so by the time I am done with the powertrain I will have $2500 in the complete BRAND NEW ENGINE. OK I have to fab brackets etc, but these I am good at. Certainly I am sure that I will have over $3K in the installation but that is still a super deal IMHO. Thanks ... Course it was without any header or muffler system, too. That could explain some of it. Whats a Rotax motor going for these days? Add about $500 for a new CVT setup (250+250) and add $450+ $200 for pipes and mufflers. A friend had his Suzuki Hayabusa fall over and it cost $3500+ to have the complete exhaust system replaced along with 2 rear bodywork pieces. Some labor in there. But it was all bolt-on. I have his old slightly bent system here at home to study. Really neat header system with all sorts of crossover tubes, chambers, Y's, and mufflers. I'm estimating that a more simple racing header and muffler system for a F600 would still have to cost at least $1500.
