The whole point of science is not to rely on anecdotal evidence, but 
to do real studies with large numbers of people. I've lived in 
Fairfield off and on since 1974, and of course I've seen the 20+ year-
TMers who still smoke and drink (to the point of alcoholism), but the 
tendency to rely less on drugs is clear from research, so nominating 
people who have TMed for years and still smoke does not negate the 
clear evidence that TMers reduce use of tobacco and alcohol. 

I posted here a couple months ago about 31-year-TMer David Lynch 
still being a chain-smoker, so I am aware of this phenomena of long-
timers still having bad habits:
