When I was taught--actually by my teacher--how to approach the teaching, I was taught the ways to approach and test the teacher and there were ways to approach and test the teachings. Regarding the teachings, I was told that I should not accept any teachings blindly, but to test them as if I was testing gold. In other words pound them to see if they are malleable and not fools gold, melt them, mold them, etc.--test them from every angle to see if they have meaning. Then, apply them in practice. Then, and only then, would the teachings come to live inside of me as part of me.
