After studying under Patanjali and Shankaracharya tradition pundits in the 80's it's clear that while manasika japa/TM is a helpful step in the earlier stages of the path to turiyatita ("CC") as described by Patanjali and others, it's only a solid early step and by no means a sufficient one for anything other than the first signs of that state (of CC). One of the ways this slight of hand (of confusing witnessing with acquisition of CC) was accomplished was by simply redefining CC/turiyatita and then indoctrinating people in this new definition. This gave both hope and continuing support for other TMO services, as well as faith in the product students were using.

So it *is* positive, but only in a limited sense.
