If the 500 pundits did get approval to come, and it seems real
unlikely that things could have come together quickly enough to allow
them to come in two weeks, the only thing I can think that enabled
this is that Howard Settle personally gave each pundit $10,000 or so
to put in their bank accounts (nobody can sponsor or put up a bond
for a visa applicant to the USA, the applicants have to pass economic
muster on their own) -- $10K in the bank, a year's middle-class
income in India, would possibly have overcome State Dept. objections
to letting a bunch of poor people who don't speak English into the
country. I'm betting it's wishful thinking, or the numbers are real
small, like the few pundits who are in D.C.
