I could drop the “anything goes” language from the description, but I see two problems:
Rick, it would be extremely helpful now to the list here as FFL to
drop the 'anything goes' language from the list description and the
guidelines. Just keep the rest of the list description as is if you
like. Droppping the 'anything goes' language then people can self-
edit and self-govern the list as there is something to write to, and
not just 'anything goes'. The bylaw as you have it written is
untenable and is just running the list down.
- Who would police it? Certainly not I. Too busy, and not the cop type.
- There have been many substantive discussions about the non-FF topics listed in the description, and there will be many more. We’ll throw out the baby with the bathwater if we quash freedom of discussion. We’ll also violate what I see as the free spirit of FFL. It’s a slippery slope. If you go into Revelations, do you hear discussions about FF only? People may be discussing all kinds of things – music, movies, politics, esoteric topics, etc.
FF is a diverse, eclectic community, and I want FFL to reflect that and remain unrestricted. Of course, drunks at a party are always a touchy problem. I keep hoping they’ll sober up. If they don’t, there’s always my solution: last night I processed 450 unread posts by sorting by author, reading the few posts by authors whom I can trust to say something substantive (wayback, Mark Meredith, David Fiske, and a few others) and deleting the rest. Unfortunately I’m sure there were some great ones by Barry, Shemp, Judy, and even spraig, but I didn’t have the time to dig for them. C’est la vie. __._,_.___
