I've seen the same phenomenon -- both sides of
it -- a few times myself. I say both sides of it
because I think it all comes from the 'pedestal'
phenomenon. Once some people put someone up on
one, they will do anything in their power to keep
them there, perform the most awesome feats of
denial. But the instant they find something about
the person on the pedestal they can't deny,
they're first in line to topple the pedestal.

Your friend was 'shocky' because of the shock of
realizing he'd been performing the former; he
rushed to tell the other teachers because of the
latter. Some of the dalliances of 'my' Rama invited
the same biloar reactions. His students would deny
some of the gnarlier stories they heard about him
and the women students up one side and down the
other, until the woman telling the story was their
friend, or wife, or girlfriend. Then the pedestal-
toppling would begin.

It's an ugly scenario all around, one that in my
considered opinion is best avoided altogether by
teachers keeping their dicks in their pants.
