So before you mentioned 2.4 and the roadmap I was going to suggest a total refactor release, but since we're headed in the UI for a direction, I'll just say what I had in mind and then I'll work into it as time permits and keep in sync with the cvs latest.

We certainly looked hard at refactoring everything. The current code base has a lot of elegant and less-elegant solutions under the hood :) This is a legacy of many different developers and years of code changes.

The problem with refactoring is that if there is no specific driving reason -- typically a feature enhancement -- its simply not worth the ROI (beyond the sense of balance a well turned piece of code brings to the mind).

Our view is typically to make amends where ever you have to touch the code, but not to refactor because the code is ugly.

When we're talking UI we're really looking primarily at "refactoring" the UI -- so its not about a specific look so much as about making the code much more semantically accurate in terms of markup so that *any* look can be applied. Obviously we'd like to have a great looking administration area to boot.

Coupled with this will need to go a much more standardised approach to usability, validation and a library of content editing controls that surface as much of the hidden functionality in FarCry as possible.
