I hate to say it but there's probably not much point in complaining to the law society in reality. The amount of newly qualified solicitors on the dole out there is well documented in the press. Also, the Law Society doesn't owe potential apprentices a job.
There used to be a cap on the numbers permitted to pass the FE-1s as far as I'm aware and that's probably not a bad idea to ensure that numbers are kept down. I can't think of any better way to do it to be honest unless there's some way of extending the apprenticeship period and making you sit the FE-1s during an apprenticeship? The system is probably as good as it can be at the moment. To introduce restrictions such as only allowing law graduates sit the FE-1s is ridiculous and will fuel allegations of law being a "closed shop", which is why the cap on the numbers passing the FE-1s was removed (I think!). As for those looking for apprenticeships, if you keep plugging away you;ll eventually get one and 5 years is more than enough time to do it in too. If you haven't gotten an apprenticeship in that time I'd suggest a different career path for you! --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "FE-1 Study Group" group.
